World of Art in the 21st Century: Sacred Music amidst Covid-19
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study was conceptualized to find out the impact of the pandemic on the Cantate Domino Canticum Novum (CDCN) music ministry in Irosin. The researchers used descriptive analysis of data anchored in the qualitative study. Purposive sampling was used to gather data on participants consisting of 9 members of the choir and the researchers made a questionnaire via google form. Based on the analysis of the data, the fear of being infected with the Covid-19 virus has often been a barrier to them as choir members. Following health protocols also has a big impact when they serve mass. According to Salleh’s (2021) publication, singing produces particularly high levels of aerosols, which are likely to contain coronavirus. If a member has COVID-19, airborne infections are dangerous. At the same time the implementation of various rules reduced the average number of members attending mass which causes them to practice using only recordings and gatherings on weekends. It was also mentioned that their faith in God has become stronger in this time with the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Büssing, A. et al. (2022), at the height of COVID-19, an even greater number of people rely on their faith in God as a resource or source of courage. Researchers recommend having platforms to pay attention to choirs and church staff. Physical interviews with choirs are also recommended for better quality and more valid data.
