Abstract

This study was conceptualized to assess the home language used in the everyday life of the households particularly in the town of Irosin, Sorsogon, according to Pokorn (2015) Home language is the language or variety of languages commonly used by members of a family for their daily communication or conversation in their home. The research utilized descriptive analysis design. Purposive sampling was used to gather the data from the 10 household representative respondents of the study each coming from the 5 clusters of barangays in the town of Irosin, note that there are 2 respondents gathered from each cluster that they represent. Content and thematic analysis was employed to analyze the home language or words, its definition, the similarities and differences and of these household words among the clusters of barangay in Irosin, Based on the interpretation and the analysis of data there had been multiple variety of household words each with their interpretation or description unique to its own. Based on the study results the researchers acknowledged the similarities and the differences of the home language in the town of Irosin through the household words that are similarly spelled or is repeated in one or another cluster and has the same given meaning and also to the words with different spelling but the same interpretation or meaning in the five different clusters. With the common causes of these similarities and differences being geographical factors, generational passage, preference, and interpretation. The researchers recommend this study to be the basis of the Department of Education on the enhancement of the Mother Tongue subject in elementary schools by implementing additional content on the local home language of the town of Irosin and its barangays.
